The Market Design is the set of processes and standards whereby the participants in the retail electricity market interact i.e. the 'rules of the road' for the retail market. the industry governance group is the forum where the Market Design is discussed.

The most recent release for the retail Market Design was on 26th June 2010. This is now the current baselined Market Design which is at 8.0

Note: to use ARIS, Java 1.1 or later needs to be installed on your machine.

Version 8.0 baseline

Version 8.0 of the Market Design consists of the existing baseline plus the following MCRs:

  • MCR 161 - Increasing the threshold for connection agreement return *
  • MCR 162 - Supplier of Last Resort (SoLR)
  • MCR 164 - Including the meter Multiplier on extranet
  • MCR 169 - Addition of Vulnerable Customer data deletion flag on 102
  • MCR 171 - Proposal to add Acceptance completion and cancellation messages to Meter Works design

RMDS is responsible for the maintenance, publication and circulation of information relevant to Retail Market Design.

ARIS Process Modelling Tool

The Market Design Documentation is published on the Internet using a Business Process Modelling tool called ARIS. Some benefits of using ARIS include:

  • Documentation of graphical and textual information in an integrated manner
  • Modelling of business inter-relationships (primarily processes and messages)
  • Enhanced data integrity and consistency, resulting in easier maintenance and higher quality output
  • Publication of content to the internet, allowing ease of access by all interested parties
